Tim frequently says that the farm is a living breathing organism, that’s always expanding, and redefining itself. Well this week we helped her out with a lot of new elements that will expand and dynamically change the successional state of the farm’s ecosystem.
We planted around 300 new cane fruits, that will bramble their way throughout the farm feeding us the community and the wildlife. We also planted trees, chestnuts, oaks, hawthorn, chokecherry and others. These will also feed the aforementioned groups, also spreading slowly throughout the local ecosystems as squirrels misplace nut caches, or birds gift a neighbor with the seeds. When you consider the possibilities over a couple generations it’s amazing what we accomplished in a week. That said my hands were far to dirty to take any pictures, so we’ve included one of our flock happily working over a new windrow of compost. We’ll be featuring composting chickens in an upcoming YouTube video, but while you wait subscribe to our channel and check out all our other informational dense videos!
Til next week…happy growing!
